Poll Results: Is Spam Becoming A Problem?

July 8th, 2006 · 5 Comments

Well after a 10 day period, I decided to end the Poll which asked the question, How Much SPAM do you receive. I opened the voting at 0-10 SPAM emails per day, however at the end of the poll I was shocked to see that 29% of the 28 voters we had received more than 50 SPAM emails per day.
Although at the same time 50% or 14 voters receive between 0-10 SPAM emails per day.

But there are some voters in between, so I will have to make a conclusion that spamming is becoming more and more of a problem for us entrepreneurs. I regularly enter my email address to signup for forums and various other things, so maybe this is not such a smart decision. I never realised how destructive spamming can be. I have only experienced a huge amount of spam comments on my .blogspot.com blog, but this was never really a major problem.

The only way the business world can combat Spammers is to not reply to them. By ignoring the emails, the horrible people and “bots” that spam us daily will realise that it is not worth their while, as they will not be seeing any results of their wrongdoings.

Thanks for everyone who voted and you will see that I have put up another competition which I will discuss later!

If you thought this post was good, you haven't seen anything! Why not:

Take advantage of tools like SpamAssassin on the server side and MS Outlook 2003 (with all of the latest junk filter updates) as your email client. I get 50+ spam emails a day, but using both of these tools, I only end up seeing a couple.

Who ever did reply to spam? And ‘ignoring’ them won’t make them stop, it’s hardly any effort on their part, they just mass-spam everything that looks like an email address. The only things you can do is try removing your e-mail address from public pages (bit too late though), get a spam-blocker (use mozilla thunderbird) or get a new e-mail and be careful.

I get over 50 a day, but it’s too much trouble to change my e-mail.

Thanks for your comments Anthony and Oz. Although I myself do not receive that many SPAM emails, other voters seem to be receiving a lot of these types of emails.

As you mentioned Anthony and OZ, you can se anti-virus, but Oz, I believe that the internet should be free from spammers. They shouldn’t be allowed to continue what they are doing even of we “don’t reply” to their emails. Oz, you get over 50 a day, and this must still be a nuisance. Something must be done about this, because whilst it is easy to delete the emails, the spammers should not be allowed to do it anyway.

[...] Spammers clog up your comment moderation management with tons of links back to their sploggy and misleading sites. I conducted a poll here which shows the growth of spamming. [...]

[...] A few weeks back, I had a poll on the amount of Spam Emails you get as an entrepreneur with different sites and blogs up and running. At the time, I reported that I received between 0-10 emails only per day, and that was really at the lower end of the spectrum. [...]
