Yesterday I was checking out a few entrepreneur forums (as usual) and I really wanted to know about what Pagerank other webmasters had for their sites - so I made a post in YE.com here.
Coincidentally, straight after I asked when the next PR update would be, Problogger informed me that Google would be updating their records over the next few days. He pointed me to SEOChat’s predict tool which to my disappointment showed me that the bots were giving me a predicted PR4 after the update.
I posted a while back how I was excited about achieving a predicted PR6 through a tool (made by iWebTool.com) on the internet which told me the good news. Now however, I have realised that it was a lie, and one which was off the track by 2 levels of PR. This has made me annoyed and a little sad as it has destroyed my hopes of being able to monetize this site successfully with TLA.
This has made me wonder why such a tool is top of Google Rankings for the search term “Pagerank predict” if it cannot truly predict the future. I think this type of tool is like trying to predict an earthquake, you can get close but still be out by a long way. A lot of people keep telling me that Pagerank is a factor of the past for ranking well in search engines, however I still think it still is a good factor to determine the popularity of a site.
For a 3 month old site though, Im happy with the progression of Blogtrepreneur, but I’ve still got a long way to go before this site becomes mainstream and before it can get near the top of search engine rankings.
P.S. If you want a good tool which shows Live Pagerank check out this tool!

I had some very odd PR changes happening to some sites of mine, way off any prediction. Like I wrote on BloggerSkills, might as well use a crystal ball

I still think that you are doing great. Its amazing how these things become addictive. The race is not to the swift. If you think aobut some of these guys out there who have been around for a few years, their sites have like 1000 of pages and imagine the links. Maybe if you wrote more about paris hilton it would hel your ranking . .. just kidding

Thanks for your comments Guys,
Aditya - the Google Toolbar in my opinion is the least informative. Many say that it never updates, and although Im supposed to be a PR4, it still shows that I am a PR0 - very frustrating!
Daniel - yeah PR is also very unpredictable. I think these prediction sites are a waste of time. Now I realise that I was stupid to think I could get a PR6 within 3 months!
And Kimberly - thanks a lot for your encouragement! Yeah time is the best factor (as well as content/links) in concerning PR. I think I’ll have to wait for a few more months even years, before I hit that PR6. Lol, and if I wrote about Paris Hilton, man would those uniques fly in!

Sorry to hear the predictions have let you down - they are all notoriously error prone. The only prediction tool that matters, Google’s own, is a top secret. It’s just the luck of the draw really. Better luck in the Jan 2007 PR update.

Anil - Whilst the pagerank tool can tell you whether your PR is likely to go up and down I wouldn’t trust it completely. For me, it said that I would go to a PR6 from PR0 and I only went to PR4. Just be careful and don’t pin all your hopes on the outcome.
Tom - thanks and you’re right, Google is the only person that can accurately predict what your next PR will be. I suppose thats the fun (or horror) of it really. Is the next PR update in January definitely?
Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment guys.
