I know this is yet another post about advertising and my adventure with Adbrite and Text Link Ads (aff.), but I feel its my duty to tell you, as this is probably the best advertising week I’ve ever had with Blogtrepreneur. Such a milestone has to be recognised!
Anyway, I woke up to an email from Patrick Gavin after I had asked him why I still hadn’t been listed in the TLA directory. He apologized and responded to tell me that Blogtrepreneur had been listed. I then looked at my Outlook and saw another email titled “New Ads to be Approved”. I was pretty excited and logged into my TLA account to see that I had 3 ads to accept; 2 of them were for the left hand side sidebar on the site, and 1 surprisingly was for the Blogtrepreneur Feed.
Now I say “surprisingly” because I actually wasn’t counting on selling any feed ad spaces. When I saw my listing, I also saw to my amazement that the price for a link at the end of an article in the feed at $30 is more expensive than a space on the site at $20! So a quick thanks to those guys who are reading this by RSS - and please take a few minutes to visit my first RSS advertiser (if his ad is actually appearing yet).
Now normally I don’t divulge in many income statistics, but because this TLA is so new and because I’ve had a bumper week Im going to share my weeks earnings and split it up into the different sources of income. This may be the first and last time I do this - so enjoy:
- Google Adsense: $3.24
- Adbrite: $7.04
- Text Link Ads: $35 (I’ll update this figure if more ad spaces are sold in the next few days)
- Article Writing: $25 (this is some work I did for a friend of mine - I charge $10 per article in case you were wondering
- TOTAL: $70.28
I’ll analyse my journey in one of my next posts because Im just so amazed at the power of the internet. This is the most I’ve ever earnt in 1 week online, and I just can’t wait for future developments. Watch this space!

Yes your RSS advertiser did show up. I asked for an update re: the TextLink ads, you gave one in spades, thnaks.
By the way, $10 per article sounds like a fair deal but at $25 didn’t you forget to finish one? LoL
There you go. Just keeping building away. Your optimsism continues to amuse and inspire me and I dont mean that in a bad way. . .
Congrats! The ad revenue from Text Link Ads is getting many of us excited after almost a year of blogging and not seeing any revenue from AdSense. Thanks for turning me on to Feedvertising and AdBrite.
Thanks for your comments!
Dave - no problem mate. I actually only got to reading your forum message just now - but Im glad that this post has answered any of your questions!
Lol - no Im planned to write 5 articles for the guy. He’s paying me half in advance and half when I’ve finished so thats $25 now - sorry I should’ve been a little clearer!
Kimberly - lol thanks. Optimisim = happy me = better blogging = happy you!
Cesar - thanks mate. No problem with Feedvertising and Adbrite (I hope you used my affiliate link lol!) Yeah Adsense is really stagnating and now just doesn’t compare to TLA. Im guessing Adsense is only really good for really massive sites, or really small sites. Otherwise you just can’t make a good recurring income.
Haa haa no problem on those articles … I was just wondering if you were going to start selling by the halves and quarters … hey maybe I could just sell words .. a dime a piece (5 new pence for UK subscribers) and 15 cents for ones that I need a dictionary for …. helps to smile now and again.
I fully agree with your thoughts regarding diversifying and exploring all sorts of ad revenues and other income. I will say, though, what a lot of folks don’t think through regarding AdSense is that it is very subject matter oriented. If you write about retirement planning, for example … or how about financing your college education you will “pull” ads and get clicks … many times those ones over 1 US dollar and more .. so it will add up quick. If you write about items that people don’t pay to buy adverts on .. you’ll get next to nothing. That’s not to say that I’m trying to suggest people write about things they don’t know or are boring to them, just that finding a niche is part of learning the rules of the game. It’s all good, though, because what I don’t earn in revenue I get back in education and I don’t have to pay any real tuition and don’t have to sit on a hard chair when the prof is putting me to sleep.
Lol do you reckon that would catch on? Instead of PayperPost.com, my competitor “PayPerSyllable.com”. I could make it look really cheap, but in reality it would be a complete rip-off and I could make a gazillion dollars
I think you must have more experience with Adsense than me. This week Im announcing my first information site, and again I’ve chosen the wrong keywords (although that’s because I’ve got a domain spare with “Entrepreneur” in it. Anyway this is all a learning curve for me still!
I much prefer sitting here, than standing up in a shop stacking shelves!
I’m with you on the stacking shelves, Adnan. Congratulations on the bumper week. That’s awesome.
Are the text link ads purchased per week, then? For some reason I thought they were bought by the month…
Thanks Ray. Oh yeah I forgot to say that the ads are paid for by the month, but I was just demonstrating the actual amount I earned in the week (that will obviously mean less money for future weeks), but still, it shows the potential.
Hello!
I have a question. How long did it take for your site to get listed on the inventory of text link ads? It’s been about a month since I installed the TLA code in my site and I still can’t find my site listed in the marketplace. I just want to know if it’s normal to wait for that long. Thanks and have a nice day!
Hi Pinoy (and btw I love the banner on your blog!)
It took around 2 weeks to get listed in the directory but mainly because TLA were having problems with an unusually large amount of people getting into the program and so had a biggish backlog.
Why don’t you shoot an email over to Patrick Gavin or one of the admins over at TLA and they’re normally really good at getting back to you quickly.
Thanks for dropping by and hope things go smoothly for you because TLA really is an excellent earner for me.
Hey, adnan! Thanks! Designed it myself.
I sent TLA support an email a couple of weeks ago and they told me it should have been up in the marketplace last week but it actually still isn’t there yet up to now. I went on a few forums and some say that there’s a large amount of backlog again this time. They’re probably getting more and more applicants now especially since they are now supporting blogger blogs as well.
Anyways thanks for the reply. Your site is very informative. Have a nice day!
Pinoy,
I would not just email to TextLink Ads, I would email direct to Patrick Gavin the CEO of TLA.
pgavin@text-link-ads.com
It’s been my experience that TLA has some customer service folk who just are not doing the job they ought to be … and Patrick is working at bringing them up to speed. But if you don’t know direct to the ‘man’ you may never get the problem licked. Look for example at Brendon Sinclair’s experience with TLA as reported yesterday:
http://www.tailored.com.au/2007/02/how-i-got-ripped-offthen-hero-saved-day.htm#comments
It’s a problem when things don’t work right but it’s a good thing when the boss wants to fix it.
By the way, are you in the Philippines? I’m in Marilao, Bulacan myself. Perhaps a small world.
Not bad, I get about 500 a week from the two, but I have 50 sites that all accumulate a bit of income… Good job
