7 Ways to Profit from a Blog

Freshly Squeezed Blog Juice Anyone?

My Blog Juice
Whilst talking to Patrick Gavin (owner of TLA) yesterday, he mentioned a cool little tool which his company had just released for all publishers and indeed for all bloggers in the blogosphere. It’s called the Blog Juice Calculator and it basically calculates the popularity of your blog compared to other major weblogs in your niche field.

As you can see, Blogtrepreneur has an indexed Juice of 4.1 which (by talking to other bloggers) seems to be a standard, especially amongst the minor blogs. Of course, sites such as Problogger and Entrepreneurs-Journey measure higher up the scale. This is because the TLA tool measures the amount of Bloglines subscribers your blog feed has, its Alexa Rank, its Technorati Rank and the number of Technorati Backlinks; therefore giving a much rounder picture.

While I was messing around a few hours ago, there was a field which let you compare your blog to another, but this seems to be missing - maybe Patrick has taken that particular part down, Im not sure. Also Im pretty sure I do have Bloglines subscribers, but the Blog Juicer doesn’t seem to think so - so take these rankings with a pinch of salt.

However all in all, Im really impressed with TLA’s creativeness and I hope they continue to innovate and push forward. Anyone want to share their Blog’s Juice?

If you thought this post was good, you haven't seen anything! Why not:

I think they tweaked the calculations. I was in the 4.2 range with a blog lost night and in the 2.something range today. I just ran yours and you are in the 2.something range too.

Also, the comparison option shows up only after your first look up one url.

Neat tool. I always think those things are fun

Yes indeed, Mike, they do seem to have updated things. A lot of rankings have changed and now all sites appear to have the “button” code available. I’m sure it’s a work in progress. As I look more closely at it I see that it’s a pretty handy tool, because when you see someone ranking above you, the bar graph will tell you some more about ‘why” someone ranks above you and this give clues to improve. I think it’s a nice service.

Thanks for your comments Mike and Dave.

Mike - I just rechecked and damn lol, we’ve decreased. Do you reckon I should change banners or keep the one I’ve got up at the mo lol? Thanks for letting me know anyway.

Dave - thanks for responding to Mike. I reckon they are constantly updating and remodelling, but that should stop in a day or 2. Anyway Im still impressed even though they’re still not counting my few Bloglines subscribers. A little imagination and fun never hurted anyone!

Well I might have to check again, only got a 0.8 last time :) It is pretty amazing how much attention this simple metric is getting, it is nothing revolutionary and I’m not going to start crying if I get a bad score.. As for the recent pagerank updates though I’m much happier - from 0 to 5, 3 months after buying the domain :) Wooho!

I’ve just run it and I’m only 0.1, but it says that my Technorati rank is 0 when I know its about 290,000 and its got 0 for bloglines and 0 for links. I think its a bit faulty at the moment, I’ll try again later.

Also, if would you be interested in a link exchange with me? Take a look at my blog and if you are interested leave me a comment.

    Cheers
    Martin

Ross - congrats with the PR. Even though its not that really important - it does help with selling Text Links and monetizing your blog. Lol actually this tool is getting a nice bit of publicity for Patrick and his team. Did you hear that it got banned from Digg though?

Martin - yeah, I think it is a bit faulty - but in reality it was only probably made to have a bit of fun.

I’ve taken a look at your blog mate, and I’ve added it to my BlogRoll. My Roll is getting pretty full at the moment, so I was thinking of moving them to a new Resources Page within Blogtrepreneur accessible through the front-page sidebar. Hope you can link to me back.

Blog Juice : The hottest new tool

Blog Juice released by Text Link Ads has become the latest buzz in the seo and blogging world. It’s a tool that ranks your blogs based on number of subscribers and links. The results are quite surprising in some cases Search Engine Watch blog has…

Oh banned from digg, what a shame.

Even though PR doesn’t really matter much, it is nice to know you’re doing something right at least :)

You can now keep up to date with your Blog Juice score. I’ve created a Wordpress plugin to display an auto-updating score on your blog. Still pointless, but now even more accurate!
