Following the frustration of deleting an extremely long article just before I was going to publish it I went on the rampage to find a plugin that automatically saves posts, very much like the Gmail feature from Google. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a plugin that did what I wanted to. Does anyone have a link to where I could find a post autosave feature or plugin?
On a side note, I was browsing through the Wordpress Support Forums and apparently, Wordpress does automatically save posts every minute. Therefore if your browser crashes, all you have to do is click on “Manage > Your Post Title” and it will come up with the saved version. So why didn’t this work for me?

I haven’t seen WordPress save any posts automatically. database-wise, with the way posts are handled it would seem simple, but I haven’t seen it done effectively.
I has very hot to find something on those lines until I found a much better solution … Microsoft Live Writer. It’s a free program originally designed for Microsft LiveSpace posting, but don’t be put off by the name … it posts directly to your WordPress blog, manages multiple blogs, handles images better than any other blog utility I have seen, and 9critical for old fumble fingers here) has a great spell checker. Try it and never lose a post again.

Yep its true. Wordpress could easily build an AJAXy version like Gmail does.
Hmmm Microsoft Live Writer. Im still not to keen on Microsoft’s “Live” range but I might give it a go nonetheless. TBH I prefer logging into my WP account and writing posts online. I did download the Performancing for Firefox tool, but I just don’t use it anymore.
But thanks for the recommendation anyway and for the comment!

Don’t quote me on this, but I’m fairly sure that such a feature is going to make it into the next version of WordPress. Autosaving of drafts has been talked about for a while, I think it’s more an implementation issue rather than no one wanting it as a feature.

I’ve just looked at the feature list for Wordpress version 2.0.5. but automatic post saving isn’t in there.
Maybe its be one for Version 2.1.
Yeah Im sure that it won’t be hard to do - its just about which member of Wordpress is willing to take the time to do it!

It is on the list for 2.1, as people are filing bugs against it, such as this one:

I frequently just press “save and continue editing” in WordPress, or write my post in CopyWriter and copy it over.r
