A Day In The Life…Of Me

October 31st, 2006 · 7 Comments

Phew! Im completely wacked out. Today like many of the days recently has been a killer, full of working and activity and non-stop thinking. That’s why I thought I should blog about a day in the life of me just so you could see my busy schedule and how hard it is to fit anything (pleasure-wise) in edgeways:

  • I woke up at 6.45am to wake up for school and to get ready for the long day.
  • I left the house at 7.35 and arrived at school at 8.35am after my coach journey with friends.
  • In the morning at school I had 3 lessons followed by a short break. Then I had 2 lessons followed by a 2 hour lunch break which gave me a chance to catch up with mates.
  • After lunch I had another 3 lessons slot and school ended at 4.00pm
  • I had to stay on after school for a company meeting. I have just formed a company which aims to sell themed mousemats. I’ll keep this on the lowdown for the time being but later I’ll dedicate a whole post to what I’ve done and my experiences thus far. Anyway the meeting ended at 6.30pm.
  • I arrived home at 7pm to eat my dinner and to check my online activity; emails from 2 addresses, stats for this blog and other of my sites, money ;), and forums. Over at YGG I’ve been really enjoying the community atmosphere that’s been created and now we’ve organised some proper projects between ourselves. That forum is full of pros and Im just happy to be surrounded by like minded and driven individuals.
  • Im just settling down to watch a football match (Chelsea vs. Barcelona) and that will end at 9.45pm. After that I’ll do a bit of homework, grab a shower and go to sleep at 10.30ish otherwise I get too tired out for the next morning.

As you can see, my timetable - especially on Tuesdays - is absolutely jam packed. I don’t really have any room for delays and above all and most worryingly, have had less and less time to blog and generally be on the internet. In my Summer Holidays I was on the computer for a good few hours a day, and now it feels weird to be without it for such long periods, even though the run upto Christmas is my busiest time as a webpreneur.

I’ll keep you guys posted but hopefully I should be able to keep on top of my work in school and outside of school - but time is becoming an ever increasing factor and a commodity which there doesn’t seem to be enough of.

So my advice for today - leverage your time and your assets well to provide you with a sound base for your work, company and for your life. Time management is one of the most important skills you can have in a world that’s all about pace and depth. Master this, and you’re set to raise high standards as you’ll always be on the ball.

If you thought this post was good, you haven't seen anything! Why not:

Sounds like you need one of those smart phones with the internet browser in them. This way you could blog/check stats/surf while traveling, long breaks, or in a boring class.

    Yeah tell me about it.
But I think they are pretty damn expensive for on the go broadband, let along the smart phone itself.

To be honest, I do waste a whole load of time on the way to school (45 minutes each way) which could easily be put to better use.

And sorry you got caught in my SPAM filter. I hope it won’t happen again as I’ve flagged you as a non-spammer!

    No problem on the spam.

“I think they are pretty damn expensive for on the go broadband” I haven’t a clue how that works but i’m sure you’re near some wifi hotspots in your day.

Besides, you could at least compose posts on it.

    Good luck.

On the smartphone idea– they are quite handy for having constant access to your work via email, the internet, etc. (I’ve been using a Treo for the last several months).

But on the other hand, it has slowed me down, in terms of total productivity, because it becomes more easy to let work stretch out from the time you’re awake until asleep, and focus gets lost in the shuffle. Plus, you just can’t be as efficient on the small screen and slower browsing time on a phone.

So, I guess there’s a balance there. Another idea would be getting a network card for a laptop, so you have access, but it’s not as omni-present. :)

    Thanks for your comment Carolyyn.
Yeah although I do have a lot of free time, maybe that time would be better if I left it how it was - Free!

I think that by having wireless connection to email/internet I would stop having a life altogether and would be checking my emails constantly which is not how I want to live my life. But at the same time as a businessman/woman it would be a good idea and easy and more convenient.

I would love a laptop but that would mean a hefty big investment. I’ll just have to make do with my desktop for the time being! :)

Well well, I clicked on a link to see who you were and I couldn’t believe that you were at school still. Congratulations. I’d leave School if I were you, and that’s coming from a guy with a Masters Degree! The web is the number 1 learning ground!

I am a 31 year old entrepreneur that started off very similar to yourself, in that I was at school and making money. 15 years later I own several companies with tens of millions of dollars in revenue.

All I can say to you is congratulations, you are certainly headed in the right direction. I was lucky enough be your age when the web was just begining, and that helped a lot. Now you are at a stage where web2.0 is just starting to filter down to the smaller players, and with blogs like this, you already know how to capitalize on it.

Dare to dream because, honestly, I have seen guys with a lot less talent than you make it big. With an attitude like you have you wont lose. You can’t. And if you do you must always remember that it ain’t over until you are dead!

Be adventorous and don’t get bogged down in bureacracy. My most successful company was started and I didn’t tell any government department for 18 months after I started trading.

Go for it, be a maverick, do things no one else will do, never give up, put in the hours, be creative, share ideas and meet new people and above all enjoy it.

Your next step is to think bigger.

Build a web site and have it made in a developing county for a fraction of the price, that’s how I started, and now have offices all over the world.

    Good Luck

Wow that was quite some comment - so thanks for the awesome encouragement Paul.

I wish the internet was as easy as you made out though. There’s so much competition but there is so much room for growth. I’m really interested in the companies you’ve got up atm, shoot me an email through the contact form if you don’t want to post them up.

I’ve got a nice portfolio of small websites and plans to grow them but these days its just getting the time to develop them. School work is taking up more time and I’ve got to relax in between as well! Its not easy being a teen entrepreneur!

Anyway thanks for dropping by and for egging me on. I really hope I can get as big as you when Im 31. Cheers,
    Adnan
