Once in a while, I like to ask the community certain questions relating to online or offline work and play. This week, I really wanted to ask you:
What do you do when you’re feeling bored and you’re on the computer? Which websites do you visit?
For me, I normally head on over to Digg, watch a video on Youtube or check my Feedreader for any blogging updates. After that, I give up and go and watch TV.
Please list all the websites you go on for news, fun and games in the comments section and I’ll get a bored list setup for all us lazy Blogtrepreneur readers who can’t be bothered to work sometimes and need something interesting to do!
Update: Your official favourite sites and things to do to kill your boredom are:
- The Feedreader
- The Digg (videos)
- The Youtube
- Reddit
- Niche forums
- Rejected Jokes
- UFC
- Investigating conspiracy theories
- Randomly surf the blogosphere
- Desktop Tower Defense
- Last.fm
- StumbleUpon
- Joost
- Refdesk
- Facebook and MySpace
- Technorati
- DigitalPoint
- Browsing silhouette photos on Flickr.
And my personal fave - getting off the computer and doing OTHER THINGS. Yes, there is a world outside the internet! Nice one Jon!

I’m guilty of checking on my feedreader a little too often as well. As for Digg, it’s one of my homepages, but I only check it in the morning. I go through a page or two of links, click a few, and then close the window for the rest of the day. I’d never get anything done otherwise!
Usually when I’m bored, it’s because I’m stuck on something, e.g. I can’t figure out a certain part of a design etc. so I’ll either look for inspiration/solution, or I’ll give up entirely and go on a link tangent (Eg. If a blog links to one site, I’ll go there, and just keep clicking random links to see where I end up.

The thing is I never get bored online.
Ok, rarely. And when I do, I either play Scrabble at isc.ro or watch Meteor Garden via YouTube.

I tend to first hit the feedreader, then a couple of forums - seaton-online.com/forum/ and dotdragnet.com/forum/. If there’s nothing of interest then I tend to try and get back to work, else I go out in the garden and check my plants, get some fresh air.
Otherwise I’ll pick up a book (on gardening, Killer Sudoku or PHP, good mix!).

When I get bored I try and turn the computer off. Getting outside or reading a book are my favorite ways to re build my enthusiasm.

I play Desktop Tower Defense - still trying (and failing miserably) to get past the 100 level challenge.

When I have some time I normally check Google News, last.fm and stumbleupon. When I’m bored I watch Joost or the amazing Mac commercial (US version is much better than UK one!). Currently I’m working on this project (www.veedow.com) that could be the right spot to hang out when you have 5 minutes and want to see things in a different way!

I usually browse around webmaster forums, the most popular being the Digital Point forums, go over to Technorati and browse around some popular blogs, read their posts, leave some comments and then watch TV or get up to go to sleep

Sport news sites could keep me hooked for hours, especially the football news (soccer for you North-Americans) that’s in direct link with betting on matches.
Also I play a lot of online poker.
24 adnan // Aug 5, 2007 at 1:46 pm
Lol @ Erik - I still havn’t played it yet.
Thanks for the recommendations Sarah and Jon - I’ll add those to the list.
Hehe Tavi I’m much like you - I log onto BBC Sport once in a while to check the scores etc. I can’t wait till the season starts!!! Ever won much in online poker?
