A major part of blogging is to build a relationship with your readers. If this isn't your goal than anonymous blogging is ok, but it makes me wonder why you would blog in the first place.

There does not appear to be any concrete basis of why people should not be allowed to post anonymously, unless of course they start saying something outrageous. After all several authors have also been allowed to write under pen names. I believe that anonymity allows people to post all their opinions without any fear.. the true spirit of liberty of speech and expression which the internet and more so, blogosphere is said to be torch bearer of.

Well, if you want to build some relationship with your visitors it is hardly recommended not to be anonymous. It helps a lot to be transparent and to gain trust with readers if you introduce yourself as real person.

To me, there are two aspects of whether one should blog anonymously or not.
1) If it is a made-for-adsense blog then it is much better to blog anonymously, probably because it helps keep more privacy and keep you away from unwanted exploitation to your niche or attracting traffic other than organic.
2) If it is a blog where you share thoughts or target a specific niche but also want to maintain a relationship, only an idiot would blog anonymously in that case.
Overall, I think it is much better not to blog anonymously whichever the type of blog it is. Interesting article and interesting topic.

I would say that there is no point in blogging if you are anonymous. One gets popular by telling other people about their success and a blog is a good channel for it. Imagine being anonymous and in the later period if the blog gets really popular, the blogger couldn't participate in offline events and no one would know who he is if he does go to events.

Having the real name is a must for every blogger and a photo is recommended but optional.
