The Main Characteristics Of A Profitable Website
When it comes to achieving success it seems that most people struggle and fail. This seems to be especially true when it comes to Internet business, but it does not not have to be this way. Successful Internet entrepreneurs understand what it takes to establish a profitable website and to achieve a considerable income from their online endeavors.
Whilst many people might say that in order to build a profitable website you must focus on design, must make your site search-engine friendly and must ensure that it is full of great content, there are other traits that you should also focus on when you are starting out.
Firstly, and this is where a large number of prospects fail, you must take action! Many, many people fall prey to “analysis paralysis” – quite simply, they just get stuck. There is an overwhelming amount of information out there and an unending line of “experts” who are ready to give you the latest and the best advice. Don’t be tempted to think that you must have all your “ducks in a row” before you get started. It is important to take action and establish your site. Publish, and you will have taken the first step towards greatness!
Secondly, be wary of those experts. You will hear a ton of conflicting information and you might be tempted to venture off into a variety of different niches. Remain focused at all times. Do one thing and do it well. If you try and diversify too much you will compromise your time and your efforts. There are a variety of ways to promote your website, but don’t think for a moment that you have to be a master of all these techniques. Just focus on one strategy and do it really well.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to make mistakes, but do try and learn from those who have gone before you. Research the work and websites of others who have clearly been successful in your niche and learn from their mistakes. Take advantage of those who have “blazed a trail” before you.
In short, begin your journey today, learn from those who have become successful in your niche and don’t be sidetracked by others who promise riches through an alternative approach. Once you have begun your journey, understand that you must be flexible and willing to innovate. The Internet continues to evolve and if you make sure that you are ahead of the learning curve you will remain ahead of the competition. Be focused and you will establish a profitable website.
How did you make your website profitable?

Speaking from my own expereince it is both hard and easy to make money online.
It’s hard if you put up a website (blog or otherwise) with the vague hope that someone will drop by and leave money.
Its easy if you put up a website (blog or otherwise) which offers something people need (or even think they need) and you _ask them to buy_.
It is amazing how many sites I visit each and every day that give me no clue as to what the person who built the site want me to do once I get there.
Have you ever visited a store that had shelves lined with products and no cash register and sales clerk to take your money? Probably not, as such a store would be out of business the end of the first month when bills came due. Where is the cash register/check out lane on _your_ website?
I have a web site that sold a custom product that it appears only I make online. Maybe not, but I have been number 1 in Google for that product since the site was put up. I was so laid back I just had a line that said,’email me if you want one of these’.
I sold a few every month. I put a bright orange “Buy Now|” button from PayPal on the site and I now sell as many products per day as I used to sell in 30 days. The site iself is pretty amateurish and seldom gets 100 visitors per day… but adding a bright orange “cash register” enables people to transfer money from their pocket to mine every single day.
Too right Dave, a call to action made easy makes all the difference.
I’m not afraid of making mistakes I just wish I didn’t make so many:)
That was a really helpful article, and I especially liked what you said about “analysis paralysis.”
“Do one thing and do it well.” That’s great advice. Focus on YOUR niche and command it. Do the one thing that you do better than anybody else, the thing that fires your passion, that will translate to every single page.
Yeah! Sometimes you’ll come to think of up selling your products and services online for more cash! Its tricky but simple here’s why you can do it.

I made my websites successful by FAILING – I made mistakes and learned from them. Truth is, you won’t know whether or not your niche and business idea will work until you go ahead and try. Once you do, you can begin to tweak things and start making decisions that will have a profitable impact.
It’s really the same as with designing a website. You won’t know if your newsletter subscription widget in your sidebar will convert until you make it live and see!
