What to Expect From Social Media Marketing in 2010
If 2008 was the year of beginnings and 2009 was the year of revelations, then 2010 is likely to be the year when social media marketing finally reaches its stride. It’s all about connecting and the opportunities for organizations that truly embrace the idea of social marketing are almost limitless. In fairly short order, the Internet has gone from the role of a handy source for information to a must-have, finger on the pulse, essential way of keeping in touch with everyone and everything. Expect real opportunities to emerge now that we have ways to interact in real-time.
The emergence of the iPhone and other smart phone alternatives has helped to introduce the concept of instantaneous gratification to millions of people. We live in a “now” culture and want instant answers to our thoughts, questions and problems. Commercial operations will be quick to exploit this urgency and we can expect to see applications and other solutions emerge, enabling us to convert this online connectivity to off-line action. For example, geo-targeted, personalized delivery of product or service solutions will become more commonplace, enabling you to receive a notice on your smartphone suggesting you interact with the retailer in your immediate locality based on your previous habits and propensities.
There’s so much data available within social networking now that it will be leveraged and used in ever more sophisticated fashion during 2010 and beyond. Micromarkets will emerge with dizzying regularity as this information is immediately converted from raw data to business opportunities. Trends will be identified as they are happening and as applications and solutions become more and more sophisticated there will be an increasing number of opportunities for smart and forward thinking businesses to make money, more quickly as they capitalize.
The Internet has long been fueled by the thirst for information and by the search mantra, but that information has historically been less than current. This will now change, as soaring Twitter use provides up to the second relevancy and data availability to Google and Bing search engine platforms. Real-time results will ensure that the would-be purchaser is even more educated and ready to buy products or services provided by the switched on entrepreneur.
The pace of technological change is so dizzying. At the beginning of 2010 we await with keen interest the likely arrival of the next generation of communication tools, possibly led by the iSlate product from Apple. Before long, everyone will have their own fully functional, always connected personal computing device at the right hand, where solutions and answers are only a second or so away. The mobile web will begin to complete the process of change. No longer will we have to make a special effort to do our research and formulate our buying decisions and we will be prompted by eager sellers to make a buying decision right now.
Social media platforms will be the conduit of change in 2010.

I’m not sure that sites like Twitter or Identi.ca would ever be able to replace Google or Bing, people conducting searches on these sites are looking for different things, for example “Is Gmail down” is a popular Twitter search but would probably yield poor results in Google.
social media marketing will rise more then ever and twitter craze will not fall. I feel that twitter would be the most happening thing of 2010.
I agree with your comment “The pace of technological change is so dizzying.” It is so overwhelming sometimes, you don’t even know where to start! I pretty much stick with Twitter and Facebook since they seem to be the largest site with the most members. You have to consider your time when using these sites for networking or business - choosing the most efficient use of your time.
I am concerned that the “real time” searches will cause even more spammers to try to game the search engines especially with Twitter, will have to wait and see though.
This article speaks the truth. We already do most of our advertising via social networking utilities. I don’t see any reason other businesses wouldn’t.
I think you’re right in that buyers will have so much info at their finger tips before they make a purchase. This might be knowing what your social media friends think of the gadget instantly when your in the online checkout for example, we all trust our friends more than a stranger so a product recommended by a friend is so much more likely to sell.
So many possibilities with social media, it’ll be an exciting year for sure. With the growth of social media, internet marketing becomes so much more fun, at last we’re recreating offline relationships online.
Great article
Not so sure on Twitter though it seems I have way more spam friends then real friends in my niche
we’ll see…
Love your article and the format of your LOG! As an experienced real estate professional, I saw the “writing on the wall” several years ago and I smile now because all that I tried to encourage others to participate in and all that I shared of the direction of marketing IS and is CONTINUING to unfold and come to fruition. That is of course social media networking. I own multiple businesses but specifically in the arena of my Real Estate Brokers HAT, I saw the shift from newspaper and catalog print advertising to online, E, marketing. Why? well of course there are multiple reasons, but COST EFFECTIVENESS and ACCESS to the MASSES were the two obvious. My passion continues to teach others how their success will in large part include social network marketing. Really glad I found your blog; good stuff THANKS

Hi,
Thanks for your info and post. This make me feel should know better about social media marketing.I expect the social media marketing can more interesting.
Social Media Marketing has gone such a long way! I’m excited to see what 2010 will bring for us!
Social media marketing is the latest buzz. Its spreading fast. Let’s wait to watch it in 2010.
What should I be concentration on and what are the key points to put forward to management? Hoping for a model case I could use for presentation.
Hey, even pets can have their own blog and Facebook page. Heck, we are even on Twitter? Who woulda thunk it?
Yes,I agree!! Right from the beginning of 2009, social media is creating a strong buzz. Now all the SEOs turned to Reputation managers and social media managers.
For me, the biggest enhancement in social media in 2010 will be the social data being indexed by Google and Bing. This is pretty scary on the individual end, but its gonna help the social media grow a lot faster.
We already do most of our advertising via social networking utilities. I don’t see any reason other businesses wouldn’t.
I agree but there are people on both the sides, those who are making use of it to every extent and others who are going on their own pace and not leverage the technology change.
For those who are in middle, like me, have a difficult time because we want to start leveraging but do not know from where to start because there is so much out there.
I agree with Credit Girl, “Social Media Marketing has gone such a long way!” I think it definitely has, especially in this day and age, companies are finding new ways to reach different markets, and different people, and right now… social media is the way to go! There are so many different platforms now-a-days (Twitter, Facebook, etc.), why wouldn’t any company venture out into social media marketing, they would be crazy not to! Which brings me to the point of, “are you keeping up with today’s technology?” Check out this great article about today’s technology: http://www.pbcoffices.com/blog/2009/12/are-you-developing-with-technology/
Let’s wait to watch it in 2010
I think the idea of social networking is growing day by day, i am sure social media will connect more and more people as well as organisation to each other to share their culture, knowledge and much more things.
It is in market research and involves primarily social media marketing but also other online PR/marketing strategies.
Advertising via social networks has been one of the ways link building and it is really effective.I try to submit my blog to about 5 social networks and i get 50% of my traffic from there.
