7 Blogs to Help You Market Your Site Like a Pro
Posted on 07. Apr, 2010 by Matthew Toren in Internet
If you want more traffic to your site, you need to keep up with the latest news and trends in SEO and other online marketing tactics. There are thousands of providers of information, each claiming to have the scoop on how to do it right. As with so many areas in business, there is no definitive “right” way to market online, rather there are many approaches and opinions, each with some degree of validity. The following list represents some of the best information out there, so you can choose which method fit your style and your goals best.
ClickZ: It’s not the prettiest of sites, but that’s one of the things we like about ClickZ – less fluff and more substance. ClickZ is the largest resource of interactive marketing news, information, commentary, advice, opinion, research, and reference in the world. From search to social, technology to trends, their coverage is expert, exclusive, and in-depth. Their mission is basic: to help interactive marketers do their jobs better.
Search Engine Land: Search Engine Land is a news and information site covering search engine marketing, searching issues, and the search engine industry. The site is led by journalist Danny Sullivan, who has been covering search for the past 11 years. It is published by Third Door Media, which also produces the Search Marketing Expo conference series and the Search Marketing Now webcast events.
ShoeMoney.com: This site is the brainchild of Jeremy Shoemaker. On it, he shares his ups and downs in the world of online marketing to a loyal daily readership of over 30,000 people. ShoeMoney.com has been named the Best Affiliate Marketing Blog and has ranked in Technorati’s top 50 blogs for the past three years. Having made millions of dollars over the past five years, Jeremy wants to share his insights with others so they too can learn and grow.
SEO Book: The core of SEO Book’s offering is their ongoing SEO training program, which will cost you $300 a month. That might sound like a lot of money, but their throngs of happy customers know it’s well worth every penny. Not ready to plunk down the dough for the monthly training? Check out their free SEO Tools section, SEO videos section, and blog, which provides tons of useful information for nothing but a click.
Search Engine Guide: Jennifer Laycock is the Editor of Search Engine Guide, an educational web site aimed at translating the search marketing world into something that small business owners can understand. Jennifer specializes in common sense search engine marketing, viral marketing and customer outreach via social media and blogs. A former search marketing consultant and in-house trainer, Jennifer’s clients have included companies like Verizon, American Greetings and Highlights for Children.
SEOmoz: SEOmoz.org provides companies and individuals around the world with online tools and tutorials to help with their Internet marketing and search engine optimization needs. Their goal is to provide exceptional software and education to businesses, individuals, non-profits and government organizations so they can best leverage the unique reach of the Internet to increase visibility and achieve success. Check out their collection of free and pro tools, and their up-to-date, information-packed blog.
Search Engine Journal: A 6-year-old publication of Search & Social Media, LLC, Search Engine Journal specializes in a community approach to the reporting of search engine news and the sharing of search engine marketing knowledge and tactics. The blog’s editor-in-chief, Loren Baker has been involved in the search engine marketing field since 1998 with a background in paid search and search engine optimization. In 2002, he began collecting his research and thoughts on the SEM industry, which blossomed into the current Search Engine Journal publication.
If you have a favorite blog or marketing tool, be sure to let everyone know in the comments. We’re always looking for the best information sources. If it’s your own site, tell us that too. It might end up on the next list!

Hi,
Thanks for sharing this.
I know you mentioned there are no “right” way to marketing online, but as a blogger yourself, which one do you follow or use? I can only assume that’s the one you would recommend over others, if you had to.
Thanks.

I’ve been reading all of blogs you posted except from Clickz. I paid a visit and I guess from now on I’ll gonna check the site regularly. Just an addition to your list, I recommend Sphinn.com, it is a good resource of SEO news and related stuff.

I have heard of some of these blogs, but some I have not. So I will have to check them out soon. I do really like seomoz and the way they present information without the bs. Their research statistics can be especially helpful. I prefer to avoid sites like shoemoney because guys like that are too often about making commission from their visitors or promoting their own crap. It is rare that these guys actually give good advice. I couldn’t be bothered to wade through all the fluff to get to anything good.

Fantastic list you’ve compiled! I actually had not heard of one of these sites, so I guess you really do learn something new every day. I must say though, even though they don’t give out as much straightforward tips, and its more random… but the Google Webmaster blog has been getting better and better in my opinion.
