SpyFu’s new Keyword Groupie Announced!
Posted on 29. Sep, 2010 by Adam in Business, Entrepreneurship, Internet, SEO & Rank, Website Traffic
My good friend Mike Roberts is an amazing ping pong player, but as founder and CEO of Spyfu, his latest announcement isn’t about a ping pong win. Mike has always been a search term guru, and now he’s approaching ‘Search Term God’ status with the announcement of SpyFu’s latest online tool. And we’re really happy that he’s allowing Blogtrepreneur.com to be one of the first sites to talk about this amazing new program. It’s called Keyword Groupie, and to call it a game changer is not an exaggeration.
A big challenge that pretty much every entrepreneur with a website runs into, is having to manage keywords for SEO, SEM, and PPC. Between figuring out which keywords are important, having to find a way to keep track of them all, and if that’s not enough, having to make sure you’ve been creative enough to come up with all those keywords that are relevant but that you might not have thought of to begin with, it’s enough to keep you up at night – or worse yet, keep you focused on things that are not core to building your primary business. But what really hurts is when you get all that figured out and then you overbid or double bid on PPC keywords, or underbid and miss out altogether.
So, how can Keyword Groupie help, and what is it?
Directly from the SpyFu University website:
“Keyword Groupie organizes a domain’s keyword list into manageable, productivity-building groups. Just like shopping in a grocery store, you want your breads all in the same aisle. And when the wheat bread varieties are shelved together, that kind of organization means people find exactly what they came for. Grocery stores consider that convenience. Google considers that relevance. Whether your focus is PPC or SEO, strong relevance means more clicks.”
Basically, you just enter your site’s URL into Keyword Groupie, and you get a hierarchal list of keywords, broken into four key groups:
- Organic Keywords
- Paid Keywords
- Organic Universe
- Paid Universe
Within the top list, you can then drill down from each of these headings to find your site’s keywords, and your “universe” of keywords (those relevant to your site but that you might not have been using). From that point, you can select all or parts of the list (or individual keywords) and download it into a delimited text file for use in Excel or whatever you have set up to manage your keywords.
This kind of keyword grouping practicality has been needed for a long time, and it will make life a whole lot easier for those involved in any kind of keyword marketing. Of course there are various tools out there that do some of what Keyword Groupie can do, but this SpyFu brings it all together into a single tool that’s very easy to use. And the best part about Keyword Groupie: It’s free!
So check out this video to get a quick overview, and then click over to SpyFu to give this thing a go. And while you’re there, be sure to tell Mike that Adam from YE sent you. Maybe that way he’ll go a little easier on me at the ping pong table!

I use Spyfu all the time. I have not yet tried Keyword Groupie but it sounds like a great program. And about Spyfu again, even their traffic numbers for a particular keyword are very accurate.
