Blog TrafficWith the growth of social media websites, spreading the word about your blog has never been so easy. Social media sites are perfect for this because they not only allow you to reach different markets that you may not normally reach, but they also give you the ability to share content that might not be appropriate for a blog.  Speaking specifically of social media, Facebook has become one of easiest, most effective, and most popular ways to expand your blog’s reader base.

    Speaking of Stats

As of right now, there are more than 500 million active Facebook users. As a collective, people spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook.  By looking at these two statistics alone, we can see that Facebook has reached an amazing level of popularity, and that popularity is only continuing to grow.  By taking full advantage of its popularity, a person has the ability to to use Facebook as an effective marketing tool to gain more traffic on their blog.  Not only is doing so a fairly simple process, but it’s free as well!

Fully comprehending the power that Facebook holds can really help you to become more influential in the blogging community and also increase your blog traffic. There are a few different ways in which Facebook can be used to benefit your blog. Below are three examples of how using Facebook can boost your blog’s traffic.

    1. As an Extension of Your Blog

By using Facebook as an extension of your blog, you will not only discover new ways to interact with your readers, but you will also be able to share any real-time with them. When you’re using Facebook as an extension of your blog, you’ll also be able to experiment with different methods that will catch your readers’ attention. Some of these methods may include things like posting specific questions, tidbits of trivia, quotes by famous people, etc., related to your blog content.  By doing these things, you are engaging your audience while drawing attention to your blog.

    2. As Blog Entry Inspiration

After a while, you’ll begin to notice which items you post on Facebook get a very good response and which items get little or no response. Based on this type of history, you will be better equipped to compose blog entries that will be sure to catch the attention of your readers.  For example, if you post a question on your Facebook page and notice that it is generating a lot of feedback, that could be a topic that you should cover in your blog. Also, if you’re following other bloggers, keep an eye on their feeds and their followers’ feedback. It’s a great way to get an overall sense of what people want to read about.

    3. As a Real-time Sharing Tool

It’s important to remember that what you post on Facebook and other social media platforms shouldn’t all be about you and your company or blog. When you find other interesting articles and content, share it on your Facebook page.  By doing so, not only will you be sharing interesting information, but you will also be creating a place where people can find useful information and discuss what you’ve posted with each other. Because your followers are able to connect with you and other followers in this way, they’ll be much more likely to pay your blog a visit.

By simply creating a Facebook page and employing a few simple, quick actions, you have a whole new world of marketing right at your finger tips. The more you use Facebook, the more you will see just how much it can benefit you and the work that you put into your blog.

Interesting observations. We tend to favour Tiwtter over Facebook, but can see the advantages and potential.

So far I use it for #3 (I got the like button, going to add the send button soon), it’s easy to setup, but I really need to take the time to do #1 and #2.

There are different groups in Facebook that will really bring traffic to your website. I think it’s worth joining in those groups than relying on shares.

Facebook’s stats are amazing, but the questions is how to make this numbers work for you. You give 3 ideas, and I will add to work your Blog within a Strategy. I mean, if you want to use Facebook, Twitter or whatever with your Blog, you have to do it aligned with a Strategy. This has worked for me and I’ve seen many people do it – it works!

Thanks for the great information. Social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn should be considered a huge advantage for entrepreneurs and bloggers. It’s amazing how many people actually use Facebook, and that much!

The social media tools really have been useful for all… the fast and easy way to connect people. I just hope the spam will be eliminated.

I completely agree with you Andrew. There is nothing more frustrating than getting spamed. How do you think social networks could put a stop to this?

Facebook is a mainstay in all kinds of communications – from gardening and artists groups to internet marketing groups. Just about every interest is represented here.

Your statement – -”Fully comprehending the power that Facebook holds can really help you to become more influential in the blogging community and also increase your blog traffic.” is very true. I notice an increase in readership to my blog when I connect it to Facebook.

Personally, I prefer Facebook over Twitter, but with all the changes, it’s less user friendly to me.

After reading this article it shows that I should be using facebook more for increasing the traffic to my blog. I post on my blog then don’t put the post on my fan page. That is slack of me.

    14. Sue June 13, 2011 at 12:05 pm #

Targeted traffic is always 1000 times better than just any old traffic, since these people are actually searching for the key words you have used. I have learned a thing or two from this post and I will be implementing them now with my own blogs.

facebook is making sales in my business. I’m betting a lot for all socilales networks. A good advice would be to control it ourselves in order to know the market likes.

I’ve been using Facebook to promote my blog and spread my blog contents. One thing to achieve success is to make real friends, and become a real friend to them. It can be proven if we only share contents that are truly useful to them. Sharing contents without relevance and spamming can have a negative impact on your blog. Facebook is a great tool, but just like any other tools, it should be used in a good way to bear good things.

I recently set up a Facebook page for my photography blog but I’m still in the learning stage in regards to promoting it. I hope to find some valuable tips on this site.

I saw this recently as a great example of using Facebook to drive (no pun intended!) business:

A driving instructor set up his business….

This person came to him wanting to start in business as a driving instructor and knowing his target market (18-30 males) wanted to know the best way to target them. He told him Facebook. Now, to be honest my first impression was ‘well how would that work?’, so he explained.

As Facebook can provide very focused advertising, the driving instructor chose to have his ‘advert’ come up on pages of males in the 18-30 bracket in his local area. As soon as he gained interest from 1 person and they became a client, he increased the advertising in the clients area. He also made a point of saying he’d keep in touch with them through Facebook. But that wasn’t what made it special….

What the driving instructor did was this…

After each lesson when he dropped the client off, he put a message on his Facebook page saying something like ‘Well done today, you really got the hang of 3 point turns. See you next week’. Invariably, the client being chuffed that they were doing well replied and this post was seen by all his ‘friends’.

Turns out, within 3 months the driving instructor was working to full capacity.

The last tip for me is the most important. I think it’s a great idea to comment on and share things other than your work from time to time so that your readers can get to know you better and connect with you on another level. It’s just like when sports stars get interviewed. Sometimes we don’t want to know about how their training is going, we just want to know whether they prefer Coke or Pepsi, or what their favourite album is.
