10 Things I Wish I Knew When I Was 21

10 Things I Wish I Knew When I Was 21

As the years pass we usually think back and cringe at the mistakes we made when we were younger. Though we can’t go back in time, it is possible for others to learn from our mistakes and for us to recognize them and prevent them from happening again.

1. Stop Waiting for Things to Come to You. Go Get Them!

Becoming complacent and thinking success will be thrust upon you is pretty easy to do. The harsh reality is that if you don’t care enough to get your name out there, others will care even less. Stop waiting and start making things happen.

2. Don’t Give Up When You Hit Rock-Bottom

It’s likely that during the beginning stages of your entrepreneurial efforts you failed or felt like you hit rock-bottom at some point. This is normal. Don’t let these phases get you down. Rather than feeling pitiful or giving up, turn the situation around.

3. Get Away From Negativity

It seems as though the younger you are, the easier it is for drama to get the best of you and let negative thinking creep in. Negative thinking will do nothing for you and your ideas. Be optimistic and use bad experiences as learning opportunities.

4. Be Confident

Having confidence within yourself, especially when you’re trying to start your own career, is difficult to say the least. When you are confident you can remain positive around people who may try to bring you down.

5. Don’t Overwork Yourself

It’s easy to think you can do everything and spend 12+ hrs a day trying to cram. Stop overworking yourself! Not sticking to a schedule or trying to take on everything without outside help is a recipe for disaster.

6. Focus Your Efforts On A Niche

When your brain is brimming with ideas it’s natural to want to try everything at once. Remember that a Jack of All Trades is a master of none. Stick with your most promising idea and focus your efforts on that specific niche.

7. Develop A Life Plan

Think about how important a business plan is. It’s the foundation of your brand and helps you see what you wish to accomplish. You should have a personal life plan to keep yourself healthy (mentally and physically) and happy outside of your work.

8. Don’t Be Afraid To Grab Attention

Your name is your brand in the beginning stages, especially if you have a service-based company. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and get attention. You want to be respectfully noticed if you wish to succeed in this type of business.

9. Have Faith In Your Idea

Having faith in yourself and your ideas will keep you going when things get rough. This goes beyond confidence; this is hope. Keeping the fire burning is the way to succeed and thrive in a competitive world.

10. This Is Your Life

Read everything you can and soak up the knowledge. In spite of this, remember that your life is your own. You’re the only one that can achieve the success you yearn for. Get serious and take control of your life now.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
