Our Small Business Personality-Type Breakdown

Whether you are currently in the midst of launching your own small business or have been a successful entrepreneur for years, there’s always room for improvement. One of the easiest ways you can improve your service is by gaining a thorough knowledge of your company’s setup and how your approach to business effects the final product. By understanding these basics, you are better equipped to make the changes necessary that will make your start-up thrive.

There is plenty of variety in terms of business owners and personality types. No two entrepreneurs are exactly alike. However, looking at the world of small business as a whole, one starts to notice certain trends. Chances are that you fit into at least one of the small-business-owner types described below:

Type A

You may feel that type A is the most stereotyped of the entrepreneur personalities, but that stereotype exists for a reason. Known as the go-getters and the perfectionists of the world, type A individuals hold great strength in their ability to deliver on promises. However, in doing so, these business owners may find themselves stepping on a lot of toes, or worse, fostering a negative environment within the company. If you identify with this personality type, you may have already noticed just how anxious you feel when everything is not “just right.” You will need to develop effective strategies for dealing with this anxiety so that you can avoid taking it out on your employees.

Low-Key

Sometimes referred to as a “business dabbler,” this type of entrepreneur tends to view running a business as more of a hobby than a competition. While some may view such an attitude as appalling, this approach does have its benefits. For example, low-key business owners are more likely to enter a field for which they are truly passionate instead of the industry they think will earn them the best income. This passion can make for amazing products, not to mention the calm work environment that accompanies a relaxed boss. However, such a laid-back nature can also be harmful, as these types of owners are more likely to fall behind on paperwork and other essentials. The easiest way to prevent such a problem is to hire an expert in business administration. This employee can take care of the logistics while you carry out your passion.

Communicator

Are you a people person? If so, your greatest asset in terms of starting a business is your ability to connect with others. This is certainly an important skill, and communication is absolutely necessary for everything from directing employees to negotiating with potential clients. While your gift of gab may leave you able to sell most anything, it’s still important to focus on developing a quality product. Your best ideas spring from group work, so don’t be afraid to set up a collaborative environment. As a people person, you’re sure to have a large group of possible collaborators to pick from.

The best business owners let their strengths shine while taking steps to minimize their weaknesses. By identifying your tendencies as an entrepreneur, you’re taking a step in the right direction. Shoring up your weak spots means you’ll have all of the tools you need to succeed in a business where collaboration and innovation are key.
