An interesting statistic is that although Gen-Y members each add an average of 16 co-workers to their friends group, 64% of them do not list their employer on their profiles. So young people use Facebook for personal reasons more than professional, but they stay in contact with those they work with on the platform.
Why should you care about all of this? Beyond being interesting, Dan Schawbel, the Founder of Millennial Branding, a Gen-Y workplace expert, and author of Me 2.0 says…
“Gen-Y needs to be aware that what they publish online can come back to haunt them in the workplace. Gen-Y managers and co-workers have insight into their social lives, which could create an awkward workplace setting or even result in a termination.”
