We are all massive fans of the Google Keyword Tool and we use it religiously to find out what phrases and keywords are being highly searched within my niche. This tool is great for choosing your keywords, buying domains, structuring your permalinks, optimizing your page titles and so much more. An example of how it works is you type in your keyword which might be “Google Advertising” and then the Keyword Tool will tell you how often “Google Advertising” was searched within the last month.

Another great thing about this tool is that it will also give you suggestions of more keywords that might receive much more search volume. For example it may be that “Google Advertising” only received 3,000 searches last month (I’m pretty sure it’s more than that) but the Keyword Tool tells you that “Google PPC” received 100,000 searches – This means that “Googe PPC” would be a much better keyword to choose for your website, blog or blog post tags.

There are many ways that you can monetize your website or blog; our preferred method is affiliate marketing with links from various affiliate programs. When you are next at a website for a specific product that you like, take the time to look down the bottom of the site and there is usually a link called something like ‘affiliates’ hiding in the footer – click it and you can join their affiliate program for free!

Once you join an affiliate program you will receive an affiliate link that goes straight to that site. If someone then clicks your unique affiliate link and purchases as a result, you will receive a nice little commission for referring that customer. Affiliate commissions are typically quite high – many offer as high as 70% to sell their product or service – that means you get more money than they do! So there you have it, you have just discovered how easy it is to become an affiliate marketer and how you can start making money without spending a penny!

ClickBank is the affiliate marketers favorite because everything is all in one place. Basically ClickBank is a marketplace of products waiting for people like us and you to come along and join their affiliate programs and start making them and you lots of money. Clearly it would take a lifetime to gather affiliate links just using the method we have outlined above – so ClickBank makes this easy by bringing all of the products and services together under one roof, allowing you (the marketer/promoter) to review their affiliate programs and choose to join as many as you wish. In our opinion we like to use ClickBank because it enables the marketer to have a full view of the products performance before even visiting the landing page, with in-depth statistics for each one. This allows you to assess the products and start promoting products which are right for you, and more importantly – products which have higher conversion rates and that are going to make you the most money

Google Adsense

You may notice that we don’t currently use Google Adsense as a form of making money on this blog but nevertheless Google Adsense is a great way to start making online and the best part is that it is free to join. Many bloggers love using Adsense to monetize their blogs with one very famous one being Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.net – he even displays his feelings towards Adsense on one of the pages on his blog “their normal ads work a treat and continue to be the biggest earner for me”. Adsense are basically little text or image ads that are displayed on your site using a piece of code provided by Google – these ads will automatically match the content on your site, so if you are a blog about dog food your ads will most likely promote dog food too. The best part about these little ads is that every time somebody clicks on them, you make money! Many have been reported to earn 6 figure incomes from the Google Adsense program alone.

Chitika Ads

Similar to Adsense, Chitika offers a slightly more targeted way of gathering clicks which in turn will generate more income. Chitika Premium displays ads to visitors that reach a page directly from a major search engine. They detect the search query used by the visitor and then return ads that best match that search query. Returning well-targeted, highly relevant ads should result in a higher click-through rate (CTR). Only displaying ads to those who reach your website or blog through a search engine is a great way to advertise as it will not alienate your regular visitors or readers – many of your regular readers will quickly leave your blog never to return if you start displaying text ads because they will become disheartened by your efforts to squeeze every little penny out of the visitors you are getting and many will start to lose trust in your content altogether. Clearly Chitika will help overcome and avoid this disastrous occurrence.

Amazon Associates

Amazon Associates is a very popular way of making money online amongst those in the blogosphere as it allows bloggers to refer their readers to any of the products sold at Amazon while paying them a percentage for doing so. If you are looking to display a ‘Tools & Resources’ page on your blog similar to ours then you may want to refer people to some recommended books – as well as referring someone to a great book with valuable information, Amazon Associates allows you to make some money off of that sale. Generally you will find that people are more than happy to click on your Amazon link and make you some money because you were kind enough to share this product with them in the first place – when people realise that you are helping them, they will gladly help you make some money. Similarly if you were to write a blog post called “Top 20 Tools Every Internet Marketer Should Own” you could use Amazon Associates to fill it with affiliate links – a great way to make money with your blog.

Sell Ad Space (Great for blogs)

This is very straight forward – set aside some advertising space (like we have got in our sidebar) and sell it to advertisers wanting to promote their products or services. Depending on how much traffic you are receiving per month many advertisers are willing to pay large sums of money providing that your site or blog is going to generate some targeted traffic to their product. Selling ad space is very easy money if you have a highly trafficked website, Michael Dunlop at Retire@21.com didn’t add any content to his website for 14 months, yet he still managed to make a nice income from selling advertising spots on his blog. Most bloggers sell advertising spots in the form of 125px x 125px banners in their sidebar – you can do the same but leave one blank saying ‘Advertise on yoursite.com’ with a link to a page displaying various pricing plans for advertising on your blog.
