Tinychat: Nothing Tiny About It Anymore

From its start in 2009, Tinychat has grown beyond most expectations. The Internet chat service that allows users to talk with up to eleven other people at a time now has over 20 million registered users, up from only one million two years ago.

Tinychat operates on the freemium approach, which allows users to sign up for free but provides the option of upgrading to a pro account that provides better video quality and eliminates the ads.

With 400,000 users on Tinychat daily and the addition of about 50,000 new users registering every day, the site has crossed the line to profitability. This is good news for its investors, a group that includes Ashton Kutcher and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

What is it?

Want to take a peek into Tinychat’s live streams? It’s as easy as browsing a photo-based TV guide, with images and a self-selected name for each participant. You can search at random or pick categories such as comedy, gaming, music, late night or teen. Up to 12 video broadcasts can run in a room simultaneously, but there’s no limit on the number of people who can follow or listen in.

You can also open your own chat room and invite friends or family to gather to plan events or just catch up. Because no special apps are required to sign in, even your most computer-illiterate cohorts will be able to get connected. As they say on the site, it’s “dead simple.”

Put it on your site!

Tinychat’s team recently developed a system to allow any website owner to add Tinychat functionalities such as group video discussions, social sharing and chat to any website fairly easily. Artists such as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are just a few of the people who have chosen to embed Tinychat into their websites.

There have been some technical problems on occasion, probably due to the site’s fast-paced growth. Tinychat’s technical team shows strong evidence that it is committed to improving the site’s functionality and capabilities. And as it stands, it’s one of the easiest and user-friendliest ways to communicate visually and verbally with just about anybody with access to the Internet. And if you find yourself bored on a Thursday night when most of your friends are already asleep, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to interact with people or just listen-in by logging onto Tinychat!
