HerCorner Helps Female Entrepreneurs Grow Their Businesses

Taking data from the last American Express OPEN report, between 1997 and 2014, while the number of businesses in the United States increased by 47%, the number of women-owned firms increased by 68% – a rate 1-1/2 times the national average. There are currently more than 9.4 million women-owned businesses generating $1.4 trillion in annual revenue and employing more than 7 million people.

Even though this is mostly good news, statistics show that most of those businesses tend to stagnate at the $100k per year mark, with only less than 20% of those businesses going over that revenue threshold. Those are still very good numbers, but there is a clear potential for more growth.

A recent survey of women business owners has highlighted some causes for such lack of growth, with common answers referring the lack of role models and networking opportunities coupled with difficulties to access financing to expand the business.

But do not worry, at Blogtrepeneur.com we are committed to help every business grow and thrive. And today we bring you HerCorner.

HerCorner is, in their own words, “a community of women entrepreneurs where members collaborate, network, and leverage one another’s expertise” to grow their businesses. It was founded in 2011 in Washington, D.C., one of the fastest-growing markets for women-owned businesses in the U.S.

HerCorner makes collaboration easy, creating opportunities for women to network and collaborate. It regularly organizes local peer groups run by facilitators and organization-wide events where women can share experiences, knowledge and advice. All this is supported by a growing online community where users focus on helping each other and knowledge is shared in a natural way.

In addition to this, and for those moments where the motivation might be lower, HerCorner also offers a wide list of success stories, showing that the goals can be achieved. For this, HerCorner organizes a Speaker Series where it brings external speakers for Q&A sessions and it highlights profiles of members who successfully built their own companies.

Finally, HerCorner also organizes an intensive, hands-on peer group program to target the operational, marketing and financial issues of getting a business to the next stage and overcoming any difficulties.

In the end, it will not tell you how to grow your business, but it will allow you to connect with other fellow women business owners who can tell you how they have grown their business and reached their potential.

And it’s not us that validate it, it’s their members. In their annual survey, 73% of members have reported growth in their businesses due to the network!
