What Are the 3 Golden Rules of Content Marketing?

If you start studying content marketing, you can look at the general concepts that comprise this niche, or you might look at some of the ad campaigns that have been the most successful. It’s a smart idea to do both. That way, you can begin to understand some of the main principles that go into this specialty area, but you can also see some examples of these notions in action.

You can always reach out to marketing agencies for help if you want to get an ad campaign going for your company and don’t feel like you can spearhead it yourself. However, even if you’re not formulating or running the campaign, you should know the three golden rules of content marketing.

Target the Right Audience

If you’re selling a product or offering a service, it does little good if you’re not targeting the right audience. Think about it: why would you try to sell cars to kids who are too young to drive? Why would you attempt to sell luxury services to individuals who can barely pay their rent?

If you’re not sure of who your ideal customer is or what they look like, you need to take some time to figure that out. Before you can craft a winning marketing campaign, you must create a customer profile to whom you would like to market.

Send the Right Message

Once you have figured out your ideal customer, you’re in business. You won’t get very far selling them something, though, unless you can send the right message with your ads.

You can probably think of tons of examples of ads that created a lot of sales and put companies on the map. However, you may also be able to remember ads that caused an uproar for all the wrong reasons.

The right ad sends the message that you have the same values as your potential customer and that you’re selling a product or offering a service that they will absolutely love. The wrong one will create a rift between you and those same customers and send you backtracking while your competitors pull ahead.

Use the Right Platform

The third golden rule in the marketing niche is to use the right platform to convey your message. You might use social media as a way of marketing your products and services since so many people use it these days. However, if you’re targeting a younger crowd that no longer uses Facebook, then it makes no sense to use that platform as the place where you’re spending all of your ad budget.

You might also have a target audience that doesn’t use social media at all. If that’s the case, then you may be better off focusing on methods like radio spots, TV commercials, billboards, etc.

The better you understand your potential customers and their habits, the more likely you can deliver an ad experience to which they will be receptive. By combining these three rules, you should be able to boost your sales.
