Top 10 Twitter Apps
The internet is all a’twitter about Twitter.com. If you’re still not using this service, then you are missing out on daily opportunities to meet people and make connections; promote your business; and stay on top of news and information as it happens around the world. Twitter itself is a simple website that allows you to register as an individual user and follow other users with similar interests. As people update their Twitter accounts, you are notified via the web or wireless network.
This is a disarmingly simple tool that can be used to reach thousands of people within seconds when earth-shattering news occurs. Faster than a blog, freer than a news network, Twitter is for people who want to know what is going on NOW.
To make the Twitter experience more enjoyable, a whole new set of applications have cropped up to be integrated with your Twitter account. Here are my picks for the top 10 best Twitter apps right now:
1) Twhirl
This free desktop client lets you follow live Twitter updates while you work all day. What makes Twhirl so awesome is its versatility. It can be used on both Windows and Mac platforms, and it connects to multiple accounts so that you can use simultaneously monitor your Twitter, Iaconi.ca, Friendfeed and seesmic accounts.
2) Tweetr
This handy tool allows you to send files to your Twitter friends simply by dragging them on to the application. Tweetr automatically uploads your file or picture and provides you with a shortened link that you can send out to your network.
3) Twitsay
Let’s you record a voice message and broadcast it via your Twitter account. Great for making big announcements!
4) Twittai
This is a mobile phone client that is compatible with over 200 mobile phone types, making it one of the most popular of all the Twitter apps.
Enter your Twitter username on this site and it will analyze your recent tweets and then suggest other Twitterers that you may be interested in following.
6) Twitterlight
This app lets you highlight text on your screen and automatically submit it to Twitter along with a shortened copy of the URL of the page where you found it.
7) Twitgraph
Analyze your Twitter usage by simply entering your user name. You’ll be given graphs that tell all kinds of valuable information about your tweets, including most commonly used words and an overview of your daily tweet volume.
Allows you to make a protected Twitter group so you can discuss private information with multiple people without anyone else seeing them; useful for co-workers, close friends, or families.
9) Twitxtr
This handy app lets you take photos on your phone and then automatically post them to Twitter as well as your other photo sharing accounts like Flickr, Picasa and Facebook.
10) Straw Poll
You can never have enough polls! Actually, this can be a really great way to do quick, informal market surveys and get feedback from your followers about your site or your business. It’s easy to use, and fun for your followers to be able to make their opinions known.

Tweetdeck, http://www.tweetdeck.com is a must have when using twitter. It allows you to group members and track/search keywords. A great way to keep track of the tweets that matter to you.

Hi,
I would recommend TwitterFox for Firefox browsers. This handy and simple little thing collects Tweets from your network every 3 minutes.
You can use it to view your @replies and send direct messages. Great for a lightweight app running in the background while you work.
All the Best!

Great list of useful Twitter apps! I prefer Twhirl the most but I might have to try some of these other ones out.
@Dwight: Thanks for suggesting tweetdeck. We will check it out now!
@Erwin: Twitterfox, another one that we need to look into. Thanks!
@Justin: Thanks for post and glad you enjoyed the post!
There are lot more interesting twitter applications. You can find a monster list of twitter applications at: http://i-stuff.blogspot.com/search/label/Twitter
Nice apps and nice post on twitter apps.
I will have to check these out, but another one I have been using is Twitkit in Firefox. It runs in the sidebar while you are using your browser.
Great List & I agree TweetDeck to add - great way to group Tweeters - only downside is API max

Wow, this a solid list of apps I’ve never heard of. I’ll second Dwight’s recommendation of TweetDeck. I use it regularly and it allows me to stay on top of replies. Twits Like Me sounds like an interesting app. Thanks for the list.
Definitely TweetDeck. For me it’s the best way to keep all your communication organized. Thanks for the compilation.
Great list. I like the diverse range of functionality in just 10 apps.
I’d have to add HootSuite, which provides scheduling tweets, managing multiple twitter accounts at once, and some very useful tracking abilities for learning how your links are being passed on and clicked.
Hi,
I’ve found Tweetie for the iPhone to be easy to use and it supports multiple accounts. Until I can get this for the desktop, I use TweetDeck for the mac.

I’m also a TweetDeck fan. Groups are convenient, but I wish there was a way (menu, perhaps) of selecting which groups you want to always see and which you don’t want on the screen (maybe a minimize button?) - three or four windows are limiting.
Another option I’d like to see in a Twitter app is the ability to monitor more than one Twitter account at a time. I have a recreational Twitter account and one just for work-related tweets. It would be nice to monitor both at the same time.
I’m suprised tweetlater wasn’t listed there.
That my personal favourite at the moment
Would appreciate if you can review TweetBrain.com, it was just introduced to the Twitter Community a few weeks ago.
TweetBrain is the Yahoo Answer for Twitter.
It is a crowdsourcing service powered by the Twitter community.
It helps people and businesses build more connections using the Twitter platform. TweetBrain fosters mutually
beneficial exchanges through the interchange of Q&As, boosting the viral effect of social networking.
Great post! There a so many cool tools and apps out there. While it isn’t on a top ten list, I personally love Ref.ly. It’s a great tool for people who want to share Bible verses on Twitter.
seesmicdesktop.com for your PC and twikini.com for mobile app. I reallyyyy like both of these. Must try’em!!!

Does anyone know if there’s a way to get Twitter apps that don’t involve going on the internet on your phone? Or is that the only way to do it?
