How Bad Is Your Blog?

There comes a time in a young entrepreneur’s life, where being serious just doesn’t cut it anymore. Sure, you should take your business seriously (like blogLOUDER) and your contacts and online pals, but sometimes you just need to lighten up and have a bit of fun.

For a while now, I’ve wanted to start up and own my own funny blog tool. I’ve seen the “How Much Is Your Blog Worth?” widget and the “Bloglebrity” tool and dreamed of having something that would be laughable at, and would attract links at the same time.

Out of the whole project, finding a programmer was the hardest part. I knew that I had contacts, but a lot of them were busy with their own sites or had client work, or didn’t know enough programming to take us through. However, after a bit of searching and pot luck, I got in touch with Sarah, after having been a long-term RSS subscriber to her feed (as she was to mine) and having chatted to her in various blog comments.

After a week of planning and finally piecing the tool together, along with some fantastic design work from Deron Sizemore, Sarah and Adnan are proud to present:

How Bad Is Your Blog?

The tool is pretty easy to use. Simply type your blog URL in and choose whether you want an offensive or nice rating (these will become apparent as you use the tool). A results page will then show the amount of inbound links you have (in the past 6 months) according to Technorati and then will show a quote and an image. Here’s mine:

I was out getting feed subscribers and making a few dollars, whilst you were crapping in your hands and rubbing it all over your blog, whilst broadcasting it to those few unlucky RSS readers.

The quote is supposed to be funny and I’ve racked up some good ones from films – so I hope they’ll give you a laugh. If you are the type of person who gets offended easily, then choose the “Nice” option – but remember, this tool is only a bit of fun and in no way reflects my real feelings about you 😉

The images too are pretty funny (especially for the low rankings in the “Offensive” section). If you so wish to make a post about the tool, then all you have to do is copy and paste the Javascript into your blog post or sidebar if you want. This will make sure that the image updates as your backlinks increase!

Below the tool, the rankings are explained and there is also a small disclaimer, just in case I get into trouble with those who don’t feel particularly humourous today!

Anyway, try it out, have a laugh, and if you want to – give us a much needed Digg to make sure that our cheery message reaches around the blogosphere!
